Emigres & Exiles in Hollywood

Seldom performed classical works by some of the extraordinarily gifted composers who fled Europe in the 1930s and '40s, many going on to win multiple Academy Awards, creating the characteristic Hollywood sound that shaped what we hear at the movies today. The program features:

• "Chant hébraique” (1928) arranged for cello and piano, by Italian-American Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco (And Then There Were None, Time Out of Mind). Listen to "Chant hébraique”:

• Serenade from Der Schneeman (1909) arr. for cello and piano, by Czech-American prodigy Erich Korngold, (The Adventures of Robin Hood, The Sea Hawk).
